Mounties Badminton Fall Short at UNB Saint John.
Mounties Badminton kicked off 2026 with a tournament at UNB Saint John. After a highly successful first semester, the Mounties looked to continue their winning ways but feel just short, placing 3rd in the tournament. However, a few standout performances gave the Mounties enough points to maintain their #1 ranking in the ACAA.
Saturday was jam-packed with tight matches in the unique 9-court gymnasium, leading to a quick, unusual 1-day tournament. With tight battles all around, the Mounties found only 1 Final.
The standout final came from Mike Ta and Tua MacNeil in Mixed Doubles. The duo have been a points anchor for the Mounties all year, and their win over UNBSJ's duo in the finals kept the Mounties on the podium.
The Mounties also managed to score up a few points in the Men's Doubles division. Two Mount Allison teams played in the Semi-finals, with David Kim and Tony Su losing to the Dal Rams, and Mike Ta and his new partner Nathaniel White lost in 3 sets to the eventual champions from UNBSJ.
The last point earner for the Mounties came from Men's Singles, where southpaw rookie David Kim found his stride in singles. Despite a tough draw, Kim landed in the Semi-Finals where he would fall to the Dal Rams in a captivating battle.
The Mounties look to bounce back at home January 31st.
